BIO
Indie folk rock singer-songwriter James Leprettre has been performing on stage since he was 11 years old as a vocal major in Charleston County School of the Arts. A summer Songwriting Camp, sponsored by Carolina Music Studios and culminating in a chance to play on stage with Mark Bryan of Hootie and the Blowfish ignited the creative spark to write and perform his own music.
James' high school years were spent playing open mic nights and gigs around his home city of Charleston both as a solo acoustic performer and as front man for James Leprettre and the Sound. The summer before graduating from high school James attended The Swannoa Gathering in Asheville, North Carolina. He spent a week exchanging ideas, improvising melodies and honing his song writing skills with instructors Tom Paxton, John Vezner, Cliff Eberhardt and Amy Speace. At the end of the week, driving in the sunshine on the Blue Ridge Parkway with the windows down and the sun shining, James knew that songwriting was what he wanted to do. The next year was spent writing, composing and recording songs for his debut album. In the Spring of 2019 the EP Quiet Scenes was released.
Fall of 2019 James entered Belmont University as a Songwriting Major. When asked who are the biggest influences on his musical style James lists Paul Simon, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver and Leonard Cohen. He now lives in Nashville, TN and in addition to his solo work has collaborated as a co-writer and studio musician.
